We often hear around The Property Mentors office that many want to become property developers. But what does it really take and how does it differ from being a property investor? To answer these questions, I've invited Andrew Purdie on the show. Andrew is the managing director of Bennett Williams which is a full-service property development company as well as one of the hosts of the TV show Australia's Best House. This is part one of my chat with Andrew, where we cover how he got to where he is today, what it takes to become a property developer and his advice to those who'd like to pursue a career as one.
Investment advisors, coaches, mentors, buyers advocates and property developers. These are just a few of the professions that are often confused for one another and given there is so much guidance out there, it can be difficult to source the right one for you and your circumstances. My co-host today not only has a professional background in property, but also has extensive experience in mentoring and coaching. Aaron Best, is the members experience director here at The Property Mentors and here to help differentiate the types of guidance available and discuss which may be best suited to you.
It's time for another FAQ episode with our investment expert, Luke Harris. If you have any questions you want answered on the show head to our FAQ section here. Todays questions/topics cover: 1) What is capital gains tax? 2) Is it better to have all your home loans with one lender or should you spread yourself across different lenders? 3) What is the difference between a property mentor and a buyer's advocate? 4) I’ve recently moved to Australia and previously owned property in New Zealand. How can that affect my ability to continue buying property in Australia? 5) Are interest rates as scary as people think?
This week I have a fantastic guest. He's been on before and I said I would get him back again, and that is Brandon Owens from Willis Conveyancing. This time around, I’ve invited Brandon back to talk all things contracts. What should you look for in yours, where can a conveyancer can mitigate risk and when is the best time to engage one? Enjoy!
Property is a topic relevant to everyone whether you are a renter or an investor. It is no surprise then, that property is always front and centre of the media and news cycle. A bi-product of this is 'media hype', something that can cause investors to be nervous about entering the market or taking their next step to expand their property portfolio. My guest this week is Dr Josie Vine, who is a senior journalism scholar from RMIT University, here to talk all about how the media industry works. We discuss the difference between 'the media' and 'journalism', how different outlets have different motivations, formats and rules they must follow and why it is so important to be critical of any news we consume.
In her first episode, we covered the three D's - Dreams, Dates and Dollars. This week, I invite Malika Kingwell back to the podcast to revisit the topic of goals. Why setting clear and specific goals are not only helpful to keeping you on track but are crucial to have, especially alongside your property portfolio. Malika also discusses the process and importance of having ongoing coaching calls with her members in order to discover these goals and guide them no matter what life throws at them.
